About Plaid Orca

On January 1, 2027, many Medi-Cal members leave their health plan and have to find doctors on their own. Plaid Orca makes sure the first place they look, their clinic's or health plan's website, gives them a real answer.

Why “Plaid Orca”

Two things that don't go together, made to work as one.

Plaid and orcas shouldn't fit, and here they do. That's our job: we take systems that weren't built to work together and make them work seamlessly, whether that's data or partnerships.

  • Difficult data, plain answers

We turn the state's provider files and policy updates into “who will see me, and what do I do next,” in Spanish and English.

  • Separate systems, one network

Health centers, health plans and community partners share what they learn, so a call one team makes helps every patient who searches.

What Plaid Orca does

  • Explains Medi-Cal changes in plain language, matched to what's happening to the person.
  • Shows nearby providers, starting with the organization's own clinics, and when each listing was last confirmed.
  • Gives one clear next step, and a person to call at every step.
  • Asks for nothing personal. A ZIP code is the only thing it needs.

For health centers

Federally qualified health centers and community clinics put the finder on the website they already have, in their own colors and with their own phone number. Staff log provider calls in a simple dashboard, and the community insights show where patients can't find care, which is useful for grants, board reports and partner conversations.

For health plans

Medi-Cal managed care plans license Plaid Orca across their network. Members who are leaving the plan get a clear next step, network health centers get the branded finder and staff dashboard under the plan's license, and the plan sees unmet need by care type and ZIP code across its service area, without collecting any member information.

How we work

  • No patient data

We never ask who someone is. That keeps patients safe and keeps Plaid Orca out of your clinical systems.

  • Accessible by default

Built and tested to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, for older phones, screen readers and second-language readers.

  • Honest about what we know

Every listing shows where it came from and when it was confirmed. “Enrolled” is never presented as “will see you.”

  • Information, not advice

We explain and point the way. We don't decide eligibility, book appointments or replace navigators and counties.
